The concept of Living Hope Community Church was birthed in
1993 when Pastor Steve Chang was invited by Good Stewards
Church to begin a ministry to second generation Koreans as
well as the multi-ethnic community surrounding Rowland
Heights, Diamond Bar and Walnut. Thus, Steve, along with
four others (two of them being his wife Hannah and his
daughter Christine) started a Bible Study in July of 1993.
On October 24, 1993, Good Stewards Community Church was
dedicated.
The name Living Hope Community Church was adopted in 1996.
It was then that the church became financially viable and
independent. Its relationship with its mother church
transitioned into a more inter-dependent relationship. In
March of 2001, GSC built and moved into a permanent facility
in West Covina while Living Hope continued to worship at the
rented facility of Rowland Elementary School. In May
of 2002, Living Hope Community Church transitioned into a
fully independent church by acquiring an office and helping
GSC plant Good News Chapel.
Since its birth, Living Hope has maintained stability and
growth as it strives to become a "church to call home."
This can be seen in many different areas of the church
including the pastoral staff and general membership.
The founding pastor, Steve Chang, continues to serve as the
senior pastor. Though having sent out many pastors and
missionaries, the staff continues to grow from within with
the majority of staff having grown from within the church.
The congregation as a whole tends to be stable. It's
not uncommon to meet many people who have come to the church
as a college student and are now married with kids.
Living Hope Community Church of Walnut Valley exists for the
purpose of reaching the changing and dynamic communities of
East San Gabriel Valley, North Orange County and Inland
Empire through providing a “home church” to the unchurched
and the previously churched. Our vision is for God to use
the church to make a greater impact in the community.
