Update from Central Asia
January 28, 2010

Dear Prayer Partners,

We are drawing near to the end of the traditional coldest 40 days of the winter, and so far it has been the most mild winter that we've experienced here. Our heating system has been keeping up with the weather most of the time. The water supply has been the most consistent as well. We are thankful that Amie is able to crawl around the house without the concern of being too cold in the house. Family is doing well. Amie and Daddy are recovering from cold. Mommy and Aspen are spending much of their time together homeschooling. As we were concerned that Aspen is not having enough opportunity to build relationships with the local children, a store owner which we frequent asked if her daughter can play with Aspen (with the motivation that her daughter can learn English from her). We are thinking about this. Please pray for wisdom.

Visa: We are still waiting for James’ work permit which will allow our one year visas. The country had a long extended holiday in January which is causing the delay. Foreseeing this delay, the work permit office recommended us to get one month extensions on our visas (one month extensions do not require work permits) which we have been finally approved for, but the office ran out of visa “stickers” and is waiting to receive more from the capital. Meanwhile, our current visas have been expired for over a week and technically we are illegal aliens. Please pray that we will be able to go through this entire visa/work permit process without problems.

The visa sponsoring company James has started working for has decided to close for the entire month of January, in light of the country’s extended holiday. Unfortunately there is no pay for the workers. Fortunate for James, he is using this time to learn Russian as the company is a Russian speaking environment. Please pray that James can make a significant contribution to the company so that he can become a person of influence. Pray for new relationships to be built. Also pray for a Russian language helper for James.

Sandwich/Café businesses: From Korea, we have located a used bread making machine for the sandwich business and a pressure deep fryer to make fried chicken for the café. We are still looking for a place where we can do both to save cost. Please pray that through these businesses, house group leaders can be provided with jobs.

One of my former furniture workers, Mark (one who had contracted TB) had been a believer for about a year when I had to close the furniture business to go back to the States. Unfortunately, those who were keeping him accountable had to return to the States at the same time and now he is back in prison for drug use. Please pray for Mark that he would keep and grow in his faith.

Tim, a recent college grad and my accountant for my previous furniture business will be out of work as soon as he finishes up the little bit of work that I gave him to do. His father is too sick to work so his mother is the only one bringing in income for the family of three. Please pray for his employment opportunity and that we can maintain an ongoing relationship. Also pray for a good opportunity for me to share the good news with him.

Hope all is well in the beginning of this New Year!

The Haws
