Calendar Announcements From the Heart

November 19, 2008

At times we wonder why bad circumstances and even tragedies come across good people. This question may be induced by witnessing friends, family or even our own personal encounters with adversity. We resolve to conclude that life is unfair and that they/we don’t deserve the difficulty at hand. Then we are reminded that this is a fallen world and that bad things happen to God’s elect as well as the worldly without prejudice. The great news is that as God’s children we never endure difficulty alone; He is always with us. God cares for us deeply and want us to go to him through prayer and allow Him to comfort us through His presence and His word. We need to grow our faith and trust that He will help us through times of difficulty.

Job was a righteous man who very successful in his time. He had much livestock, lots of land, lots of property and lots of servants. Additionally he loved his family. He prayed for his family and children on a diligently on a daily basis. He event went as far as sacrificing sin offerings on behalf of his children daily on the chance that they may have committed an offense against God. Job also covenanted with his eyes not to gaze at other women other than his wife. Although Job was a righteous man great tragedy fell upon his life; we all know his story. However, during his very difficult trials he never sinned against God. Although he was falsely accused of by his friends, and tempted by his own wife to curse God, Job never lost his faith. In fact toward the end of the book of Job, we see Job worship God in complete humility as he is reminded of Gods awesome power and ability to be far and above anything that he could imagine. This testing of faith made increased Job’s dependence on God and therefore strengthened his relationship with the almighty.

God give us encouragement through James 1:2-4; “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

God wants us to be made “perfect and complete” as we endure through the testing of our faith by undergoing various trial in our lives. Our bond with God will be that much stronger and sweeter and for that reason we can consider it all joy under difficult circumstances.
