September 5 - Real Conversation on Deconstruction
Jason Min is the Lead Pastor of Citizens Church in Los Angeles. A Southern California native, Jason earned his B.A. in Communications and History at the University of Pennsylvania, his Masters of Education at Harvard University, and his M.A. in Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary. Prior to stepping into ministry, Jason pursued careers in education and music. His five love languages are music, coffee, diet coke, golf, and the Lakers. Jason and his wife Carol currently reside in Los Angeles with their two children, Avery and Jack.
Barnabas Piper is a husband and the father of two daughters. In his spare time, he spends reading, writing, or watching sports. He has worked in Christian publishing and leadership development for nearly fifteen years before being called into pastoral ministry. Barnabas now serves as an assistant pastor at Immanuel Church of Nashville.
Barnabas has contributed to a variety of websites and publications and writes regularly for He Reads Truth and is the author of four books: The Pastor’s Kid: Finding Your Own Faith and Identity, Help My Unbelief: Why Doubt is Not the Enemy of Faith, The Curious Christian: How Discovering Wonder Enriches Every Part of Life, and Hoping for Happiness: Turning Life’s Most Elusive Feeling into Lasting Reality.

September 12 - Real Conversation on Work
Pastor Steve Chang
Steve Chang is the founding senior pastor of Living Hope Community Church. He is a graduate of UCLA (B.S. in Computer Engineering), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M), and Talbot School of Theology (D.Min.). He is on the council of SOLA Network and has a passion for influencing the emerging generation of leaders with the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is blessed to be the husband to Hannah, father to Christine and Janice, and grandfather to Evan!
Burton W. Lee, MD is currently the Head of Medical Education and the Head of Global Critical Care for the Critical Care Medicine Department at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Prior to his recruitment to the NIH in 2020, he served as a Professor of Medicine at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Lee received his B.A. from University of California Los Angeles and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He subsequently trained in internal medicine and then pulmonary critical care medicine, both at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also trained in Clinical Effectiveness and Evidence Based Health Care at the Harvard School of Public Health and Oxford University, respectively. His main academic focus has been in education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows both in the U.S. and in Sub Saharan Africa. His expertise includes physiology, mechanical ventilation, scientific numeracy, and evidence-based medicine and has authored numerous publications including two medical books for clinicians. He has also won numerous awards for excellence in teaching; recent examples include the Educator of the Year Award from the Christian Medical Association, the John W. Kreit Outstanding Educator Award and the Outstanding Subspecialty Teaching Attending Award, both from University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Lee has been passionate about global health, especially in resource-limited countries. From 2002 to 2005, he volunteered through Medical Education International to teach at University of Pristina in Kosovo helping their anesthesiologists’ efforts to rebuild after the civil war. Since 2006, he has been teaching at the Continuing Medical and Dental Education Conference, which provides accredited continuing education for overseas healthcare workers. He has been a member of the planning commission for over 10 years and is now the Academic Dean for this conference. From 2010-2016, he moved with his family to Kenya to serve at Kijabe Hospital under Africa Inland Mission. His wife, Sandy, taught English and served as a college counselor at Rift Valley Academy, the school where their two children also attended. He co-founded the Emergency Critical Care Clinical Officer (ECCCO) program to help bridge the high burden of illness in Sub Saharan Africa with the shortage of well-trained clinicians. Burt and his family moved back to the U.S. in 2016, after the second of their two children graduated from Rift Valley Academy. Their son, Kyle, is on staff with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and their daughter, Alyson, is a graduate student at Columbia University. Burt and his family are very thankful for their life journey so far and for the opportunity to live their lives according to their faith and what they truly value, following in the footsteps of many in the Christ-following community who have traveled before them.

September 19 - Real Conversation on Perspective
Pastor James Lee
James Lee is the Pastor of College Ministry and Church Operations at Living Hope Community Church. James is a graduate of USC and Fuller Theological Seminary. He is passionate about building up the local church to love its own and its neighbors. He and his wife Hannah love serving together with their daughter Abigail. Their dream is to go on a short-term family mission trip soon.
Dr. Susan Kim-Choi has been a member of Living Hope since 2009. She holds a BS and MS in Mathematics from UC Davis and Cal Poly Pomona, respectively, as well as a Doctorate of Education from Azusa Pacific University. She has over 18 years of experience teaching in various community colleges around Southern California and she is currently an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at Pasadena City College. She is married to Paul, a high school history teacher, and is the mother to two sons, Isaac (7th grade) and Avery (6th grade).

September 26 - Real Conversation on Community
Ervin Liang is the Director of Student Ministries at Living Hope Community Church. Ervin graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a B.S. in Cellular Biology and Genetics and from Denver Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. He is passionate about making Jesus as tangible as possible to the next generation and has a dream of staying in Youth Ministry for his entire career. He loves to play basketball, go hiking, read books, compete in board games, and spend time with his family.
Dave Newman is the lead pastor of the church plant, Neighborhood Life Church in La Mirada. Dave is a graduate of California Baptist University and Talbot Theological Seminary. He is currently in process at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for D.Ed.Min in Global Missions. He is on the board of way to many councils and Dave is passionate about planting Neighborhood Life Church in La Mirada, and equipping churches to serve marginalized communities. He is blessed to be married to Bri, and proud to be the father of two adult Boston Terriers, Louie and Ell
